Gordon Castle
Completed as one of Scotland’s largest houses in the 1770s by the Duke of Gordon, Gordon Castle is the historical home of one of Scotland’s oldest families, resting in the heart of whisky country with a stretch of the Spey River running through the estate, hosting some of the best salmon fishing in the world.
Gordon castle was used during the Great War as an auxiliary hospital for soldiers returning from the front.
It fell into disrepair before being ‘rescued’ by war hero Lieutenant General Sir George Gordon Lennox after World War Two, who began the loving restoration that is continued today by his grandson, Angus Gordon Lennox and his wife Zara. They have jointly reinvented the traditional sporting estate to offer exclusive use accommodation in the Castle, self-catering holiday cottages, world-class salmon fishing and the eight-acre Walled Garden. This popular visitor attraction is one of the oldest and largest walled gardens in Britain, with natural children’s play area and a café serving delicious fresh food grown in the garden which is also the inspiration behind their luxury brand, which produces over 200 lifestyle and natural beauty products, created from the fruits, herbs and plants grown in the garden and handcrafted by local suppliers.
