MADE IN MORAY…the not so well known North East Coast of Scotland

The whisky of this region has enjoyed the angels share of glory for centuries, but Moray is also recognised for the beauty of its coastal landscape. The quality of light, as well as life here has attracted many artists and craftspeople to the area, supporting a growing number of creatives who are passionate about the place in which they practise. Many draw on our local heritage to blend tradition with innovation, creating individual products with an emotional, as well as functional value.

Our textile heritage plays a major part in this craft renaissance. Spanning over three centuries, our weavers are old hands driven by a new vision. From micro-enterprises who supply cloth to Saville Row tailors, to major manufacturers supplying international luxury brands, the level of craftsmanship here ranges from raw materials to the finished product.

And it isn’t all about cloth.

My hometown, Forres and its larger neighbour Elgin, have a particular history of gold and silversmithing, as well as leather working and in the surrounding hills, forest crafts, that extend beyond timber production.

Each of these artisans respect tradition alongside innovation and exhibit a compelling enthusiasm for their craft. Merging form and function these small scale enterprises embody both passion and personality, to secure their skills for the next generation.
