BESPOKE KILT MAKING
BESPOKE KILT MAKING
Bespoke kilts are priced as follows:
MAKING + MATERIALS + SHIPPING
MAKING costs start FROM £675, dependent on the style of kilt.
MATERIALS costs are determined by the style, cloth and leatherwork choices. Textiles can be sourced by me to your requirements, or purchased from my existing collection of deadstock, vintage and end of roll fabrics for a sustainable style choice, (on average prices range from £25—£85pm). Alternatively I am happy to work with fabric that you supply—subject to its suitability.
As a guide a full traditional kilt requires 8-9m of cloth.
Dependent on width of cloth and the length you require, this can be cut and joined from 4m of double width fabric.
SHIPPING is free within the UK, sent by Royal Mail tracked delivery. Overseas shipping is by DHL courier, tracked and insured and at standard rate. Please note that overseas customers are subject to customs/duty charges payable in addition.
Your kilt is made for longer than your own lifetime and takes a considerable number of hours to create. Depending on the nature of your commission and the number of kilts I am currently working on, your kilt will take a minimum of 12 weeks and I am currently taking orders approximately 6 months in advance—book well ahead!
The kiltmaking process begins with a consultation to establish your needs and aspirations and understand the reason for the commission.
This is followed by fabric research, selecting with swatches by post or in person and then a design sketch to finalise your choices and styling options. Usually I prefer to have one fitting prior to final completion of your kilt, though this is not always necessary.
I provide a detailed guide for measurements to be taken by you if I cannot do this in person. Guided measuring, first fittings and design consultations can all be achieved over zoom if the opportunity to meet isn’t possible.
I live in Forres, on the N.E coast of Scotland, a beautiful part of the world that is well worth a trip if you are not nearby, or have never been. You are most welcome to visit, you can spend time getting lost in fabric, kilts, some cake and usually quite a lot of tea. Even better, if you wish to make a kilt consultation or fitting part of your holiday plans I run a holiday cottage at The Presbytery that can be booked in advance.
